The Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery

The Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery covers two floors at the Butterflies for Africa complex in Pietermaritzburg. Established in 2001 the gallery has grown both in size and stature, exhibiting a number of popular local and international artists. Styles and subject matter range from sublime landscapes by Charmaine Eastment to Sandi Beuke’s quirky French villagers and contemporary woodcut prints by Ezequiel Mabote and Isaac Sithole

At any one time around the works at least 50 different artists are on display offering a wide choice of paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and photography.  In 2008 the Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery hosted renowned Spanish artist Didier Lourenco for his inaugural African exhibition and remains the exclusive outlet in Africa for his beautiful original oils and lithographs.  Also on show is a range of investment art by South African masters such as Walter Battiss, Christiaan Nice, Frans Claerhout and William Kentridge.

Opening times are Tuesday to Friday 9am -4pm, Saturdays 9:30am – 3.30pm, Sundays from 10:30am – 3.30pm and closed on Mondays.  The gallery is located at the tropical butterfly centre Butterflies for Africa at 37 Willowton Road, Pietermaritzburg, just half a kilometre off the N3 highway. For further information call 033 3871356.
