Valentines Day in Durbs

One Billion Rising

Valentines Day often leaves us rather anxious and feeling like we have to do something amazing on the day, whether single or not. But fear not, because we have lined up a few awesome options for all styles, budgets, singles and couples. If you'd like to have your event featured, let us know about it here. Oh, and be sure to check back as the list is getting longer and longer... 1 Billion Rising's V-Day Considering the recent shocking events in South Africa highlighting the abuse leveled at women and children, V-Day is an excellent way to lend your support to an end to gender violence. Birding goes Bad in Twitch

twitch title

The Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre will proudly present the premiere of KickstArt’s comedy 'Twitch' between the 7th and 24th of February. Written by Robert Fridjhon, the play is directed by Steven Stead, set design by Greg King and lighting design by Tina le Roux. It was inspired by a period in 2006, when Robert worked primarily with birds at the FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. The plot unravels in a birdhide in the Kruger Park, as two couples, an unlikely blend of a paleoanthropologist, a mining engineer, a marketing executive and a housewife, compete in a cut-throat birding competition. ‘Twitching’ is the term used for when a birdwatcher is able to tick a new bird off their lifetime list, and is quite a serious

Let the countdown begin

soccer

With the start of Euro 2012, soccer fans around the world are breathing a collective sigh of relief. Having been starved of top quality, international football for far too long, the BIG Men at the top are finally at work in Poland and the Ukraine. As usual, they are giving us the greenest of pitches and the sharpest of televised images of those sweat-exploding, ultra-slow motion headers and overhead, HD shots. The only problem is that, mixed with these feelings of satisfaction, South Africans cannot deny that sadly nostalgic, post 2010 feeling- not so long ago, it was all happening right here. In fact, it was exactly two years ago today. It is hard to believe that just 730 days ago our country was the most exciting place to be on

About Durban

Durban Botanic Gardens

Botanic Gardens of Durban

Not just a place for trees If you are under the impression that botanic gardens are merely museums for trees, think again.  Take Durban’s Botanic Gardens as an example and you will find a place that not only boasts a phenomenal selection of flora and birdlife, but also hosts events, workshops and concerts and even provides recreational and event spaces for hire. Founded in 1849, the gardens have a proud history mainly relating to its impressive collections of orchids, palms and cycads, the last of which is currently ranked among the top ten cycad collections in the world.  A walk around the gardens offers a side of Durban that is often left unseen, with the beach and sea as its primary
