The inimitable Evita Bezuidenhout will break the monotony of Darling and heat up Durban with her irreverent wit and humour this Wednesday, 5th June at the KwaZulu Natal Society of the Arts (KZNSA) Gallery Gala Fundraising Evening.   The famed hostess, former Bapetikosweti ambassadress, author, socialite and without doubt Mzansi’s most notorious Tannie, will hold court at the Gallery. The KZN Arts Café have put together a fabulous menu in honour of the First Lady, based on the doyenne’s very own cookbook Evita se Kossie Sikelela, which will be served from 6pm. The show begins at 7h30pm. As an extra treat, the gallery has created a special Boere-Baroque vintage-inspired photobooth where, for a donation to the Gallery,

Here is something for the family! An entertaining new school play and fun way to kick off the school holidays! Chelsea Preparatory School presents Tripswitch, a delightfully funny South African play, written by a local Drama teacher Jean van Elden of Eden College. Two old British ladies get a phone call to say they have won a trip to Paris, or so they think. Instead of landing in Paris, they land at OR Thambo International Airport. They travel through South Africa experiencing our many unique cultures. Their final destination is a small farm town, Parys, where the penny drops! Their destination was not Paris, it was Parys! Catch the fun and support our young talent. The show takes place from the 25th to the 27th of September

The Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery covers two floors at the Butterflies for Africa complex in Pietermaritzburg. Established in 2001 the gallery has grown both in size and stature, exhibiting a number of popular local and international artists. Styles and subject matter range from sublime landscapes by Charmaine Eastment to Sandi Beuke’s quirky French villagers and contemporary woodcut prints by Ezequiel Mabote and Isaac Sithole.  At any one time around the works at least 50 different artists are on display offering a wide choice of paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and photography.  In 2008 the Blue Caterpillar Art Gallery hosted renowned Spanish artist Didier Lourenco for his inaugural African

The Chelsea Preparatory School’s Arts Festival

The Chelsea Preparatory School’s Arts Festival takes place on the 9th of June 2012. “This annual event showcases dance, music, drama and fine arts performed and created by the children”, explains co-ordinator of the Cultural Department, Mrs. Gillian Atkinson. The festival is open to the public and all are invited to spend a day at the school and enjoy a line up of fun art, music and drama, supporting and encouraging our future talent. The school will also host the Kwa-Zulu Natal Youth Orchestra who will be opening the event, followed by John van de Ruit, author of the Spud series, who will be giving a brief discussion followed by a book signing. “I heart Market” will be running throughout the

Art & Convo is a first official art exhibition by U&I hosted at The Factory Cafe. U&I, a movement, and brand that has a solid belief structure. They have belief in the ability in which we all possess: to create and collaborate. The collection of work on display, whether it is new or old artwork, will be exhibited at Art & Convo for the first time. Art should not be created merely to reach another end. Art & Convo exhibit works by various artists who have used found objects from their spaces and made it into an artwork. The showcase shows us that art can be the outcome, when we least expect it to be.     The expressive power of the human posture explored. From 6-25 March, The KwaZulu Natal Society of Arts Gallery is hosting Grace Kotze’s latest exhibition.  This new body of work, entitled Thaw, explores the expressive power of the human posture and results in a visually stimulating, engaging and memorable art viewing experience. Kotze’s inspiration stems from her understanding that the human posture carries and supports many of the more underplayed and, often, more personal human emotions.  Although initially linked to her own experiences and the intimate understanding of her own posture, Kotze describes the exhibition as a social commentary that seeks to expose the viewer to the subtlety
